Canvas Bag

 

 

 

 

This was my little (or not so little!) project the other day. I bought some calico, dyed it a light grey colour (that was a mission and a half considering the calico didn't want to take the colour at first - went through TWO bottles of powder hahaha), made the three felt flowers like I explained a few blog posts back, and hot glued them on. I included a couple of images of the base of my bag to show you how I achieved a flattened bottom which I like. I simply pinched the corners of the bag into triangles and sewed a straight line across the triangles on the inner side. Voila! A base!

Fabulous Flowers Journal and Card set

It was my best friend's 19th birthday at the end of October, but I didn't manage to get her present or card together properly until now. Here is the journal I jazzed up, and the card I made for her using the Fabulous Flowers stamp set from Stampin' Up!. I bought the chocolate journal off Etsy from JR Crown (it only cost me $3!). Uni has been hectic, and I have only just finished exams for the year. I can't believe that my entire first year of university has already come to an end. What I also cannot believe is that my last post on this blog was back in JANUARY this year!! That's madness!! Anyway, hopefully I am around on the odd occasion over my time off uni because gee have I missed you guys and my card-making. I've decided to take up Summer School which is running for six weeks beginning in January, so I have a good time off now, then some study, then a good time off before uni goes back for good.

How has everyone been? What's been happening? What have I missed since the 26th of January? Tell me...tell me alllllllllllll :) Hahaha!

This journal has not been touched for a VERY long time now. I first posted about it back on this post. This is a now finished page I completed the other day.

Now back to my Modern History assignment on the Korean War. Yay! I say that with so much sarcastic enthusiasm ;)

Marcia's Ornament Swap

I took photos of the 2 ornaments that I decorated for Marcia's Christmas swap that I posted about the other day...ages ago when I first sent them off. I thought that I should do the right thing and wait until the swap was over and everyone should have received their ornaments before I posted the photos.....but then I left it too long, and totally forgot! So here they are hahaha:

I covered the star in glue, then pressed it onto some patterned paper and allowed it to dry. I then cut around it using a craft knife and did the same on the other side. I then dusted over it in white acrylic paint, and used a skewer to dot silver spots across the pattern. I punched a hole in the top and threaded it with some green furry yarn/wool.

I pressed the snowflake onto a silver inkpad, until it was completely covered in the ink. I then sprinkled SU! Heat and Stick powder over it, and heated it, followed by a sprinkling of SU! Dazzling Diamonds glitter, and heated it again. I punched a hole in the top and threaded it with some SU! light blue grosgrain ribbon.

Marcia's Ornament Swap

The very talented Marcia Pringle hosted a very unique swap, Australia wide, from the beginning of November. We were sent out some chipboard shapes and had to decorate them in whatever way we wanted to create 2 Christmas ornaments. Fun Fun Fun! We then all sent out 2 ornaments back to Marcia, who distributed them out. I'm not exactly sure whose ornaments I have received back, though they are all AMAHHHZZINGG!!!

I've only just got started, and I'm taking it really slow so that I am really thinking about how I use the journal.

Beaded Angels

As I mentioned in a previous post, I have been asked to make some angels for a friend's mum. You can see that post >here<. She asked for 5. Here is another one that I made. They are really easy, though I do find making the wings quite fiddly. To get around this, you can always buy those metal angel wings and hot glue them onto the back. They look great too! You can find the instructions for these >here<.

Angel Instructions

I have had a couple of requests for the instructions on how to make the beaded angel I posted the other day. I finally found the printed method I had originally based the angel design off, and thought better than to type up my own....I'm really bad at explanations, especially through typing.
It didn't scan very well, so I will just type it all up in more simple terms.

Kit Makes 1:

1. Fill 10* safety pins with beads.
2. Cut ~8cm of wire, thread all pins on going through the tail of each pin.
4. Twist the ends of the wire together tightly, forming a circle (waist) and trim excess wire.
5. Cut ~20cm of wire, thread the head of one pin through, then a 0.5cm wide bead.
6. Repeat step 5 for each pin, until they are all threaded onto the wire.
7.Twist the ends of the wire together tightly, forming a larger circle (skirt) and trim excess.
8. Cut ~12cm of wire, and fold in half forming a loop.
9. Thread on a 0.5cm wide bead and slide the ends of the loop up the skirt and bring it up through the waist and thread on another 0.5cm wide bead, and then a white larger bead.
10. Pull the two ends of wire apart, and mould it into a small circle (halo), then thread on small ~2mm beads and twist the ends of the wire together tightly, and trim excess wire.
11. Cut ~12cm of wire and wrap between the head and neck beads.
12. Thread on ~2mm beads on each piece of wire (arms) and wrap the ends of wire around the last bead, twist tightly and trim excess wire.
13. Cut ~20cm of wire and mould into a "figure-8" shape, with about 2-3 layers of wire, and wrap the end of the wire around the centre and twist between the head and neck beads, and trim excess wire (wings).

Safety Pin Angel

Okay, so I'm not much of a singer, but I did accomplish something last night. My friend's mum/mum's friend (both are true) has asked me to make her 4 of these cute little angels. She wants them to be the size smaller though..but this should give you a good idea of what they look like. Another of my mum's friends, showed me one of the angels she had made, and now I just can't resist them. They are adorable and can be made for anytime of the year. They are really easy to make, though you have to be patient as I have to admit that they can get a little fiddly at times.

Altered Journal

Yep, for those of you who guessed a "mini album"...you were basically correct! I altered a KaiserCraft small wooden scallopped square album for my friend's birthday present. And below is the card I made for her. It was a little different to what I usually make, but I really like it! The album was bought from an eBay store in Australia..it was really cheap!! Canvas

Yesterday I forgot to post the photos of the canvas I decorated. I'm not sure if I like it--I think it looks a bit cut 'n' paste like. I like the flower and the squares, but the circles are putting me off it I think. Hmm...maybe i can pull of the circles and just use squares. Idk-I've just had an inkling that a paintswatch canvas could look really fun, happy and creative. I'm not so sure. Leave a comment and let me know what you think of it.

Hahahaha!! I didn't realise you could see my knee and foot in the mirror before! LOL (:$ how embarrassing!)

Altered Journal

I started with a plain journal with a black metal spiral spine, and tied ribbon cut-offs randomly in pinks, teal and purples along it. I then stamped the bottom-right corner with a lady-bug from See-Dee's with silver ink (Encore) and then embossed it with black embossing powder.
